Japan
Japan, located in East Asia, is an archipelago with over 3,000 islands. However, just four of their largest islands cover 97% of Japan's land area. Most of the islands are mountainous and many of them are volcanic. Japan is a developed country and a global leader in machinery, robotics and technology. Japan doesn't have sufficient natural resources to sustain its rising economy and enormous population. Hence, its industrial sector has to rely on imported raw materials and fuels to satisfy its needs. Due to the lack of arable land, the country must import about 50% of its food. Japan also imports most of its supply of meat.
